[ Steve has to maneuver sideways through the door, a challenge because he can't keep his eyes off of Bucky for too long and he can't stop smiling like an idiot, either. ]
I could think of worse.
[ He lays Bucky's weight down in his bed and leans right in for a kiss, jokes and preamble be damned. ]
[Bucky's smile grows, broad, especially at that dopey smile of Steve's. It's charming, always has been. Always will be.]
Oh, and what would that be--
[Steve's kiss cuts off his snark, which is probably for the best.
It only takes a moment for his brain to process what's happening-- even though he should have expected all of this, since he was the one who'd asked for it in the first place. He wraps both arms around Steve's back, using his right hand to scratch at Steve through the fabric of his shirt.
It's just hard enough to feel it, but light enough it'll heal before he's even finished trailing his nails against the other man's back.]
[ Steve hums into the kiss. He hadn't intended to be quite so lingering, but Bucky's nails on his back have his brain stopping short and his body is very firmly on Team Touch Bucky.
With his weight braced on one hand, he brings the other up to brush Bucky's hair behind his ear and caress his jaw. ]
[ Steve likes a good plan when the situation calls for it, but Bucky's not always something he can plan for. He can't help grinning down at Bucky and pressing another quick kiss to Bucky's lips. ]
[ It's not really in Steve's general habits to deny Bucky much of anything. He'd bend over backwards for him. Hell, he's already blown up his whole life to keep Bucky safe and he doesn't regret it for a second. ]
[ He rolls his eyes, but his expression is nothing but fond as he leans back down for another kiss. Bucky looks good like this in his bed. He looks comfortable and happy and Steve remembers not too long ago when that had seemed impossible. ]
[His smirk doesn't vanish any, but Bucky doesn't offer any more commentary, leaning up into the kiss.
This? This might be new, but it's exciting. Hell, it's everything he's wanted since he was a teenager. The dames were great, he doesn't regret all those times with girls. But Steve? Steve was always there.
Will always be here, now.
He only pulls out of the kiss long enough to breath.]
[ Steve just smiles down at him, pressing their foreheads together. ]
I was right. Kissing you is a lot better than thinking about kissing you.
[ He knows it's sappy, but he doesn't care. Bucky knows him well enough to expect this from him. Or he should. Either way, he should expect a lot of it. ]
[ And then he kisses Bucky again, because he can and he wants to and Bucky is right here under him. He's wanted this for a long time and any changes they've been through haven't impacted that in the least. ]
[ He brushes fingers over Bucky's cheek and pushes his hair back. Bucky might be all pushy and eager, but Steve wants to take his time. For him, it's always been about finding someone worth the wait. Bucky's always been worth everything to Steve. ]
For so long, all I wanted to do was find you so I could keep you safe the way you always used to keep me safe.
[ Steve feels something swell in his chest. He's so thankful that Bucky's here now, that he's going to stay and let Steve help him, in whatever capacity.
He takes a moment to just look at Bucky, memorize his face the way it is now. It's so much more relaxed than when he'd first found Bucky again, so much closer to what Bucky had been like before and he knows they can't go back, but he wants so much to see Bucky happy. ]
There's nothing I wouldn't give you.
[ And he's perfectly sincere as he leans down to kiss Bucky again. ]
[Bucky laughs, but it's a warm sound, something from the bygone era of the two of them talking about dames and dating. Never each other, the times hadn't been right for that; they could have been killed. But now? Now there's no reason to want anything else.
The dames were always good, but nothing like Steve.]
I know.
[He returns that kiss eagerly, both hands clasped to Steve's back.]
[ Even as he's trying to keep things slow, Steve can't help loving the way it feels to have Bucky clinging to him like that. It feels right, the two of them here like this. It's like they've always belonged together in some way and he loves the feeling of being able to really be close to Bucky.
As he pulls back to breath, he kisses Bucky's cheek and his jaw. It's sweet and maybe a little teasing. ]
And there's nothing I don't want to give you, either, Buck. You deserve everything.
[ Steve doesn't know how long Bucky's wanted it, but he knows how long he has. He's always admired Bucky so much, loved him in a way he doesn't think he could love anyone else. Losing him had destroyed a piece of Steve and it feels like that's still being repaired now that Bucky's here. ]
I can't imagine wanting anyone else.
[ Steve would like to think he's shown where he priorities lie when it comes to Bucky. There's no one and nothing that will make Steve turn his back. ]
Can't help thinking this would be a little different.
[ He smiles down at Bucky and kisses him again, this time with a little more promise to it. Taking this slow doesn't mean he doesn't want Bucky. The idea of pressing close in Steve's bed is amazing. He wants to learn ever curve and dip of Bucky's body. ]

I did promise I would tuck you in.

You did, didn't you?
[Bucky can't help feeling proud of himself, humming lowly.]
Got anything else planned?

[ Steve likes a good plan when the situation calls for it, but Bucky's not always something he can plan for. He can't help grinning down at Bucky and pressing another quick kiss to Bucky's lips. ]
What kind of plans were you hoping for?

Winging it sounds fun. I didn't have much of a plan, either. I just wanted an excuse to get in bed with you.

Stay, Buck. Please just stay.

I'll stay. There's no reason to pretend I don't want this.
God, Steve, 've wanted this for so long.

Y'know, that sounds nice. I've never had anything like that before. And having you take care of me, pal, I 'unno, it sounds like my idea of heaven.

At least it means they're both doing this on their own terms.]
You have no idea how long I've wanted this.
[...Actually, he probably does.
After a moment, he reaches up with his right hand to press it against Steve's cheek.]
Lookit you, you could get any man or woman you wanted, and 'm the one you're interested in.
no subject
I can't imagine wanting anyone else.
[ Steve would like to think he's shown where he priorities lie when it comes to Bucky. There's no one and nothing that will make Steve turn his back. ]

[That confession is easy enough, because he's still stroking at the side of Steve's face, and all his attention is on the other man.]
But you've always been there. I love you, punk. I probably always have, it's just taken me too long to figure out what it all meant.
no subject
[ Not that it's been an easy time for either of them, but Steve would weather just about anything to keep Bucky by his side, safe and alive.
He turns his head to kiss Bucky's palm. ]
I'm going to spend as much time as I have to proving that to you.

[He lets Steve, looking relaxed and trusting.]
Wouldn't be the first time we've spent long nights keeping each other warm, hmm?

Since I'm bigger now.
