It's about three months into Asher Williams' first assignment as a priest. At first, the idea had been daunting, but he's found himself settling in well and he's growing increasingly fond of the people he sees every week.

At first, many of them hadn't shied away from pointing out that he's quite a bit younger than the man he'd replaced, but he's mostly proven himself to be more capable and patient than they might have expected from a man in his early 30s. He does his best to carry himself as a much older man might, even if he lets a few things like his red hair slip through.

Today, he's greeting people after mass, asking a kind old woman about her grandchildren and congratulating a new mother when he looks up and catches sight of Lassiter, throwing a small wave his way and extricating himself from his current conversation. They've only spoken a few times, but Asher likes to keep up a friendly rapport with everyone he sees regularly.
goodluckkobra: (I fall out of grace)

It had been a perilous journey to Port Royale for Father Kobra Kincaid and now he finds himself very much out of his depth. Under the surface, port life is very different from the sort of society that he'd been raised in. Sure, there's the illusion of propriety, but they're so close to places with no moral compass at all. He fears that even here the morals are looser, as are corset strings, and he's never quite sure how to handle that.

On the one hand, it's his duty to show these people the right way and lead them on a good path, but on the other hand he knows that there are things he's not meant to notice or comment on, even when he can't help but notice them, from the drunk blacksmith to the crooked dockmaster. He really wasn't prepared for this, but then it feels wrong to focus on such trivial things when it's not uncommon to hear stories of pirates and plunder, loose women and killers.

It all brings into stark focus his own demons that he's fought with and he'd hoped that becoming a man of the cloth would take him away from them, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Now, he can hear something going on at the docks from his small church and he wonders if he shouldn't go see what it is. If there are pirates again, he'll be no help in a sword fight, but he might be able to assist the wounded or help any women or children who might be in the area to safety. As he's warring with his own decision in the matter, he hears frantic footsteps on the roof and hurries outside to investigate.
