Nightmare After
[Daisy has been spending most of her nights in Bucky's rooms these days. Not every night was spent intimately, but after a rather rough day it just sort of happened. She's been asleep for a few hours when she wakes up to Bucky whimpering in his sleep. It's not the first time she's woken up to having nightmares, although this seemed to be less violent than some of those other times. She still hasn't figured out the best way to soothe his nightmares, sometimes he reacted more violently to being touched.
Taking the risk, Daisy lifts her head from its place against his shoulder and reaches out to tuck his hair behind his ear as she leans forward to press a kiss against a temple.]
It's okay.
[She hates seeing him like this and even more than that she hates that she can't do anything to really help him.]

His dreams come in flashes, the shot of a gun or the feeling of falling all that remains when he wakes up, but he can usually fill in the gaps well enough.
Tonight, he's falling and her words jolt him, eyes flying open. His face is a picture of shock. He'd been ready to hit the ground below. ]

You okay?
[Her voice is barely above a whisper, and with how dim the light is in here she can just barely make out the expression on his face. Was he actually awake or was he still in the middle of his nightmare?]
Bucky?

[ It takes him a moment to adjust and remember where he is, but it's a lot better than it used to be. At least he doesn't wake up disassociating anymore. Disoriented, sure, but he's still Bucky. ]
I'll be okay, Daisy.
[ His heart is racing, but he knows where he is and he's safe. Releasing a heavy breath, he reaches for her. ]

You want to talk about it?
[Usually he doesn't, but she still offers every time.]
no subject
No.
[ Talking doesn't help. He'll be up for a little while from the adrenaline, but he's trying to break the habit of getting up when this happens. It leaves him tired and worn if he does it too often.
He wraps his right arm around her, palm resting flat on her back. ]

Okay.
[She figures he'll pull away and get out of the bed, so when he wraps his arm around her she's a little surprised. Maybe it's progress? Nose bumping against his, Daisy tries not to push it with him if he'd rather just lay here. But now she's awake, and, well, there are other ways to get his mind off of the nightmares.]

He's glad she's here and maybe saying things like that doesn't come too naturally to him, but the showing them does. It's an easier language to speak when words fail him. Just having her here helps ground him in reality. There aren't too many people who have that kind of affect on him. ]

I'm awake now and I'm totally blaming you for this.
[As if she was actually upset.]

[ His arm tightens around her, hand sliding up and down her back slowly. It's been so long since he's been able to feel so intimate with someone and he'd had to break down a few of his own walls to do it, but it had been worth it to figure out how to let her in. She hasn't let him down, hasn't betrayed his trust or pushed his boundaries. He's honestly happy, even if there are still some struggles. ]
How do you suppose a guy could go about a thing like that?
no subject
I might have an idea or two.
[Her fingers that had weaved their way into his hair tighten as she leans in to kiss him, this time it's not as gentle or soft, but needier and rougher.]
